Celebrating My Birthday and Learning How to Age Well

I turn fifty-one this year. Born in 1974, I now sit halfway between two centuries. Half my life unfolded in the 1900s and half in the 2000s. I sat down with a calculator and did the math to make sure (and if you know me, you know me and math). And whatya know, I’m sandwiched right in the middle this birthday year! This balance between worlds feels intriguing to me. It also feels like the perfect time to reflect on what it means to age well and what I’ve learned along the way.

A little background to get us started. I’m a mom to two grown children; a daughter and a son. Additionally, I and a grandmother to a curious and hilarious 2-year-old grandson. I’m also married, and we will celebrate thirty years together this April. Having three generations in my life keeps me aware of how time moves, how perspectives shift, and how important it is to take care of our bodies and minds.

My interest in health started early. It grew during my years in healthcare and stayed with me long after I moved into teaching movement. I’ve always loved learning how the body works. I enjoy supporting people who want better strength, more mobility, and easier daily function. This passion has also shaped my own wellness path.

My exercise habits have shifted with each decade. Step aerobics in my 20s. Training for a run in my 30s. Mountain biking in my 40s. And now, strength training and a deeper mind body focus in my 50s. Through all of those seasons, one thing has never changed. Movement makes me happy, and sharing those benefits with others brings me even more joy.

Aging Well Is About More Than The Body

One thing I’ve learned is that aging well isn’t just about exercise. It’s about staying adaptable, curious, and connected. My work places me with people across generations, and each group teaches me something new.

I support other gen X’ers and baby boomers as they rebuild strength, balance, and confidence. I design classes to meet their specific needs but always challenging them to grow stronger. In addition, I also teach younger adults who face their own chronic challenges, helping them move safely and build confidence and habits that will protect their bodies for years to come.

And then there’s the tech side. Exactly three years ago, I decided I wanted to start writing a blog. I didn’t want to use cookie-cutter sites to build it; I wanted it to be my OWN website. With nothing but a little extra time and a dream, I began teaching myself WordPress. Three years later, I’m amazed at what this old bird has learned! However, I must give credit to the young’uns who have lifted me up along the way. This path has led me to spend time in online communities learning software and social media alongside younger adults. Their curiosity, energy, and downright drive keep my mind open and engaged. Being in the middle of these worlds is a blessing. Dancing between older adults, younger adults, and myself reminds me every day that aging well is about the whole person, not just the body.

Strength, Balance, And Simple Practices

When I design classes, I focus on real-life outcomes:

Strength training, Pilates, and Yoga Nidra all play a role. But so do mindset, boundaries, and the willingness to take up space in your own life. Aging well is built through consistent practice in both body and mind.

Looking Toward January 2026

I’m excited to share that in January 2026, I’m launching a new program for women who want to age well with strength and intention. We’ll focus on bone health, balance, and functional strength with follow-along classes including strength training for muscles, bone density, and confidence; Pilates for pelvic health; yoga for mobility and balance; and mindset work. Yoga Nidra meditations will support stress relief, better sleep, and overall well-being. We’ll train together, follow clear steps, and create routines that support both body and mind. Growing, learning, and encouraging each other every step of the way. Sign up for the waitlist to be the first to know when enrollment opens.

Birthday Reflections On Aging Well

This birthday reminds me that it’s never too late to invest in yourself. Better strength and mobility can always be achieved. You can stay curious, engaged, and capable at any age. The only limits we have are the ones we place on ourselves. So go for it. Make those big shifts, dream those big dreams, walk that new path! And remember, do it in a way that feels supportive, fun, and perfect for you.

I feel grateful for my marriage, my children, and my grandson. I feel grateful for my work and the way I continue to grow. Fifty one feels strong, clear, and full of possibility. Here’s to an auspicious 51!
